Steve Urso

Steve Urso joined ScotiaMcLeod in 2007 as an Investment Associate in mid-town Toronto. Steve is a Certified Financial Planner (CFP) and Chartered Investment Manager (CIM) with Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) (Honours) from Brock University.

Working in close consultation with his team, Steve creates comprehensive, custom-tailored total wealth management plans for each client. Fluid and flexible, these plans – which align the disciplines of investment management, estate planning, tax planning, insurance planning and more – are designed to reflect both changing markets and the ever-changing lives of Steve’s clients and their dependents.

We are thrilled that Carol joined ScotiaMcLeod in 2015, bringing with her over 25 years of experience in the financial sector. Carol’s main focus is to deliver a superior client experience through an unwavering dedication to clients’ financial needs. Carole’s experience, knowledge, people skills, and charisma provides our clients with excellent service.

Carol enjoys many forms of fitness, including snowshoeing, hiking, swimming and going to the gym. She is also active in organizing the Terry Fox Run. Friends and family are very important to her. Carol enjoys travelling and exploring new places.

Born and raised in Panama,  Nina moved to Sudbury with her husband and two children in August 2022.  Nina has a bachelor’s degree in Marketing Management and 10 years of experience in administrative duties in the banking industry, and is fluent in English and Spanish. She’s excited to bring her experience to the team and provide excellent client service. In her personal time she enjoys movies, music, and loves to spend time with her family.

Tom Fernandez

Tom joined Scotia Wealth Management in April 2000, and has 25 years of experience working in the estate and financial services industry. He has extensive knowledge in both personal and corporate planning. Tom has served on an advisory board for Manulife Financial and holds a Bachelor’s Degree from Laurentian University specializing in Economics.

As an Estate and Trust Consultant, Tony helps clients preserve and transfer their wealth by providing advice and guidance on estate planning opportunities and facilitating the production of a comprehensive estate plan incorporating professional executor, trustee and attorney for property services.

Tony holds a Specialized Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from York University and a Bachelor of Laws degree from Osgoode Hall Law School. He brings to his role over a decade of relevant experience as a lawyer practicing in the areas of estate planning, administration and litigation, supplemented by practical skills and competencies earned by working in small business and as a business owner/ operator himself.

As a Total Wealth Planner, Matt is responsible for guiding our clients through our Total Wealth Planning process, which begins with a thoughtful consideration of their entire financial picture, immediate needs, and goals for the future. With a clear understanding of our clients’ unique financial situation, Matt collaborates with our team of specialists to develop a customized Total Wealth Plan that is comprehensive, forward-looking, and tailored to help each client reach their financial goals. Through an evolving Total Wealth Plan, Matt works with our clients to help them achieve future success – as they define it.

Matt holds the Chartered Accountant (CA) and Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designations, and has completed Levels I, II, and III of the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants In-Depth Taxation Program. Matt is a graduate of the Bachelor of Business Administration (Honours) degree from Wilfrid Laurier University.  He is a volunteer Financial Literacy Mentor with Youth Opportunities Unlimited, as well as a volunteer tax preparer with Free CPA Tax Clinics, operating in cooperation with a variety of agencies, including foodbanks, charities, senior centres and social service agencies.  Since 2012, he has also been a teaching assistant with the Ivey Business School at Western University.
